March 2023

Rotary Junior Speaks at Our Lady and St. Patrick’s Primary school.  OLSP Speaks.

OLSP hosted the Rotary Club of Teignmouth for the 2023 Junior Speaks competition. The heats were held the previous week, and the Youth Committee and Rotarian judges were treated to a wide variety of topics chosen by students from Year 3 , 4, 5, and 6.

The Final was held in front of the audience of family, staff,  friends, Rotarians, and the judges.

The topics ranged from TikTok and it’s idiosyncrasies, to the complex workings of the human body.  Other very topical choices were, Sharing and Kindness, and showing Racism the Red Card in Football and the wider community . The content of the topics, the delivery, presentation and the individual sincerity of the speaker were all taken in to account when the judges made their very difficult decisions when choosing the winners.

Teignmouth Rotary Club President, Mr Peter Taylor, presented the Shields and prizes to the winners. Year 6, winner, Abi, with her very entertaining and well practiced speech about Commentating which was entertaining and informative. Year 5, Willow, with her informative talk on hobbies, her own and others, encouraging us all to find a hobby to call our own. Year 4, Ada, gave a very eloquent account of her reasoning behind the reasons she believes that the Roald Dahl stories should remain as they are. Molly in year 3 had certainly done her research on the Monkey world and shared this with the audience.

Mrs Blatchford, the Head Teacher and the teachers and staff, were thanked for their help with the preparation and support of the event by Rotarian Mr Michael Keith. The range of topics was varied and informative and we all came away knowing more

The Rotary Club of Teignmouth are delighted to sponsor and support this annual event and are already looking forward to next year with enthusiasm and anticipation.
